Abstract

This paper studies the different dynamic forces that interact within the construction of the borders separating the provincial states of Entre Rios and Corrientes, by the end of the 18th century during their colonial dependence, and the independent stage on the first half of the 19th century. The analysis, which is developed regarding a regional perspective and contemplating major and minor scales, focuses on the different strategies applied by both states during constant conflicts and alliances, typical of this period, in pursuit of an expansion of their territorial jurisdiction which would imply greater resources, population and control over the region. This area had great importance given the fact that it included the Uruguay River, which was key for the trading corridors between Brazil and the Rio de la Plata zone. The main sources for this study were treaties, decrees, mail, and memories.
