Propuesta denegada. Dilemas éticos en la etnografía encubierta criminológica./ Denied proposal. Ethical dilemmas in covert criminological ethnography.

Abstract

La etnografía encubierta ha sido una técnica muy criticada a lo largo de la historia de las ciencias sociales. Actualmente, cada vez surge un cuestionamiento mayor sobre qué tan ética puede llegar a ser esta técnica y bajo qué postulados se examinan los dilemas a los que se enfrenta antes, durante y después de la estancia de campo. La etnografía encubierta criminológica tiene, por la particularidad de sus fenómenos de estudio, un especial énfasis en toda esta cuestión. Todo lo cual nos lleva a sopesar qué tan necesaria es esta técnica y si hay posibilidad de ejercerla de una forma ética. Finalmente, se considera que la disparidad entre lo que es ético o no en el campo dependerá de múltiples factores y que los comités éticos no dejan de ser agentes institucionalizados y altamente burocratizados que devienen ineficaces.

Covert ethnography has been a highly criticized technique throughout the history of social sciences. Currently, there is a growing debate about how ethical this technique can be and under what postulates the dilemmas faced before, during and after the field work are examined. The criminological covert ethnography has, due to the particularity of its study phenomena, a special emphasis on this whole issue. All of which leads us to weigh how necessary this technique is and if there is a possibility of exercising it in an ethical way. Finally, it is considered that the disparity between what is ethical or not in the field will depend on multiple factors and that ethical committees are still institutionalized and highly bureaucratic agents that become ineffective.
