Abstract

The efficacy of the alfonsinista discourse in the Argentinian transition to democracy was its ability to identify the political opening of 1983 as a point of rupture between an authoritarian past and a democratic future. The regenerative plot established around the promise of a "democracy for all times" offered the chance of redemption of those elements of the Argentine political culture that had worked the long cycle of instability. This regenerative plot gives a particular temporality to the discourse of Raúl Alfonsín. The article discusses the diagnosis and proposals of Raúl Alfonsín between 1980 and 1983, showing the role that this regenerative plot plays in the rupture character which the transition to democracy in Argentina acquired.
