Abstract

Throughout the central books of Metaphysics, Aristotle investigates the four senses of the term being:accidentallyin itself, as trueand false, as potencyand act. After arguing that the first sense of being is to be substance, Aristotle argues that the substance, in the strict sense, should be understood as a form, not as a matteror compound.
