Abstract

Universal Basic Income is a monetary benefit granted to all citizens of a territory, without any specific requirements. This is about ensuring that everyone has sufficient income to meet the essential needs of life. In this sense, this proposal contains elements that define economic and social systems, such as justice, equity, the dignity of all citizens or productive efficiency.
The increasing digitization and robotization of the production system, the automation of jobs and the accelerated loss of employment have two immediate effects: an extraordinary increase in productivity and the persistence of high structural unemployment. As a result, the unequal distribution of income and wealth is accentuated, and the risk of social exclusion and extreme poverty is multiplied.
