Abstract

The article exposes the heterogeneity that characterizes the field of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) in Uruguay today. To this end, it seeks to qualitatively analyze how organizations belonging to the cooperative world and the new associative forms position themselves in relation to some dimensions identified as central (nature, solidarity, internal democracy, external relations, feminist politicization, generations, relations between production, commercialization and consumption, and relations with the State). Seeking a comprehensive analysis, the phenomenon is historicized and contextualized, starting from a broad definition of the "other" economy, to then propose the differences, similarities and emerging tensions that constitute the sector itself.  The analysis is organized into three sections: 1. internal relations, 2. relations with other organizations and institutions, and 3. relations with nature. The methodology used is based on a qualitative mapping carried out during 2021 through semi-structured interviews with 24 of the 30 second-degree organizations identified.
