Current Issue

The aim of this paper is to analyse, from a sociological perspective, the main transformations that have taken place in the field of asylum and refuge in the European Union over the last decade. Starting with an analytical overview of the last decade, it examines in depth the global dynamics of the changes contained in the European Pact on Migration and Asylum. Beginning with a brief contextualisation of forced cross-border displacement, it then delves into an analysis of asylum as a process through which international protection is expected to be recognised, with the legal and subjective impact that this involves.

It goes on to consider the outsourcing of protection as a proposal that delegates responsibilities and intensifies colonial power structures that are reinforced through migration management. Finally, it recapitulates on the process of the erosion of refuge in order to propose the need for new approaches to protection that allow us to confront new contexts of lack of protection. Keywords: Protection, Refuge, Human Rights, European Union.
