Abstract
The restorative model of criminal justice offers a variety of opportunities with the capacity to offer an appropriate response to different criminogenic matters. Restorative justice programes are becoming increasingly prominent at the international and community level.
In this article we reflect on community conferencing as this model provides a method of dealing with crime that integrates the community into the process. The participation of all actors, victim, offender and community, allows this approach to be adapted to multiple intervention and prevention needs. Consequently, a new approach to crime policy needs a strong social, institutional and legal impulse to realise its full potential.
