Abstract

After the end of the Spanish Civil War, the Franco dictatorship undertook the task of identifying and returning the artistic heritage that had been seized from private collectors by the Generalitat de Cataluña in 1936. The responsible for these returns was the Service for the Defence of National Artistic Heritage (SDPAN), which between 1939 and 1947 undertook countless processes with the objective of returning them to their owners or depositing them. This paper, which focuses on Barcelona, presents an enumeration of cases that provide an insight into the Franco’s operational administrative machinery.
