Abstract

The existence of the former Basque privileges on military matters was a reason of the mistrusts of the O'Donnell government during the African War (1859-1860). It motivated, in turn, the alarm of the Basque institutions. In the article there are studied the questions produced between the Government and these institutions, concerning the contribution of forces with destination to this war, the appointment of his chiefs and officials, and the future of the military Basque peculiarities.
