Abstract

Frank Darabont expected that The Majestic would be a tribute to the cinema and to the traditional values of the American society. The film, which deals with the witch-hunt in the Hollywood of the post-World War II era, is analyzed in this paper from a historical perspective but considering also the wide range of cross references, double meanings and connotations present in the film, the different interpretations it admits and the reflections it provokes. We also pay attention to the historical, social, political and cultural contexts in which the movie was filmed and released, deeply marked by the events that followed the September 11, 2001 which, in turn, raise new ways to approach Darabont's movie.
