Abstract

German Gamazo was a successful lawyer and a politician critical of the last decades of the nineteenth century. Creator of a complex family and social networks, we found around it to multiple women from different areas made that success possible. From the family, his two wives and his sister create new family ties, professional and politicians. From the professional level, are widows and religious in his own name may sue independently and he come to resolve issues that highlight the situation of helplessness that was always a woman without the supervision of a husband or father recognized. The widow of the Duke of Osuna, the Marquise de Manzanedo, the daughter in law of Larra or Miss Ubao are some of these women. Behind all these are armies of women in domestic service whose work made possible the maintenance of all those rich homes, supporting and giving endless hours in most cases to live their own life.
