Abstract

This article analyzes the birth of the nationalist movement in the town of Bermeo (Bizkaia). Since the only hypothesis put forward up to now in order to shed light on the extension of nationalism in the fishing world has failed to be applicable in all cases, this article is aimed at introducing an innovative field of analysis which will help understand this phenomenon. It offers the analysis of the political context of the towns where Basque Nationalist Party expanded, laying emphasis on the structure of political opportunities which favoured such circusmtance in the studied case.
