The origins of the police in Biscay: the «partida volante» (1781-1824)

Abstract
The creation and configuration of the European Police forces is closely related to the origins and consolidation of the Contemporary Bourgeois State. Although that process was a quite fast one, it is necessary to search for its deepest roots in the Late Modernity in order to understand its ideological principles and attributes. In Bizkaia, moreover, the first institutionalized Police was organized comparatively early in relation to other Spanish areas or European countries. This paper deals with the main issues about its origins and development.
