Abstract

The article makes a historiographic review of the merchants-bankers in Spain from the beginning of the 19th century until the Bourbon Restoration. Besides, with diverse sources and published works, a quantitative approach is made to the number of private bankers who exercised this profession, to its origins and basic features, besides its involvement to the contemporary elites of power.
