Abstract

The Spanish Civil War generated an intense political mobilization in Argentine society and in the large colony of Spanish immigrants in the country. In order to contribute to the the rebel army, in August 1936 Falange Española was founded in the city of Buenos Aires. The party sought to raise money resources and to deploy propaganda strategies that succeeded in calling for the support of the population. This article aims to analyze the characteristics, contents and forms of political activism promoted through the press organs published by the organization during the war. We will study the weekly Falange Española, published between October 1936 and March 1938, and ¡Arriba! the organ that replaced the previous one in April 1938.
