Abstract

The trade union issue was one of the main lines of expression of the "ebb flow" of the Iberian Transitions, the influence that the democratization in Spain displayed in post-revolutionary Portugal. In this case, it involved the attempt to transfer the successful experience of the Spanish union UGT to a country where the trade union uniqueness established by decree during the revolutionary process favored a communist preponderance in the labor movement. On this occasion we will analyze the role that the Spanish socialist organization had in the creation of an alternative labor union to the CGTP-IN, developing a patronage for the creation and reinforcement of the União Geral de Trabalhadores de Portugal.
