Abstract

The research on masculinity in fascism has been of great interest for decades. Currently there is an abundant bibliography on the subject, which often fails to engage in a general debate. This historiographical review aims to give an account of the evolution and advances in the history of masculinities under fascism and the specific case of Franco's regime. First, it will reconstruct the international framework for its study. Secondly, it will use the Spanish case study to examine in depth the approaches, sources, and themes developed. Finally, it will rethink some assumptions and point out future lines of research for a better understanding of fascism and gender relations.
