Abstract

This article deals with the continuity of the Spanish Civil War beyond the last official war report. In particular, it analyses both the adaptations and updates of Franco’s control agencies, especially its intelligence and document recovery services. By using prosopography as method, this study engages in dialogue with the historiography of the so-called ‘perpetrator turn’ through the identification of both individual and institutional trajectories. The following pages focus on two major case studies: the Military Information and Police Service (SIPM) and the State Delegation for the Recovery of Documents (DERD). Both agencies allow us to understand the close connection between the final stages of the conflict and the consolidation of the heterogeneous institutional body of the Franco dictatorship. The intimate relationship between the circulation of information, record production and the defence of public order is thus explored.
