Abstract
After the end of World War II, European integration became a possible horizon. However, its characterization was the subject of debate among European Catholics, also within Spain. Criterio: revista de problemas contemporáneos was a publication of the ACdP which, between 1947 and 1950, wanted to participate in this debate by opting for the thesis finally upheld by Pius XII: Christian universalism. During its three years of existence, Criterio maintained that Europe, above all, had to be the restitution of the old Christendom that had disappeared centuries ago, the only third way to the bipolar conflict proposed by Rome and which this group of propagandists defended, echoing the news coming from beyond the Pyrenees and connecting with those Catholic places where the same discourse was shared, such as the Catholic University of Fribourg or the International Catholic Conversations of San Sebastian.
