Abstract

This work analyses the evolution of the studies about republicanism, from those made by militants in the nineteenth-century until the present. Republicans in that century published histories about their party as intruments for the identification and propaganda and as transmitters for the republican political culture and its memory. The franquismo got that publications about republicanism in Spain offered a negative image, while the exile maintained the previous traditions. In the 1960s began publications interested in republicanism, democracy or federalism from an academic perspective. These works continue in the initial years of the twenty-first-century, after two decades in which this political movement was relegatted inside the spanish historiography.
