Abstract

The work of Maurice Barrès comes marked by the political-social crisis that starts of the instauration of the Third Republic in France. His theorization of a new nationalism of conservative cut was the attempt of join of political cultural alternative of the new regime. Barrès was in addition a great hispanophile. This interpretation of the Spanish reality was heiress of the topics of the French romaticism and reflection of his critical and pessimistic vision of the French situation. Barrès was thinking about sing in Spain to nation resistant to process of economic and bureaucratic rationalitation that, to his judgment, was threatening France. This word hed certain repercussion among the intellectual Spanish elite, but more to aesthetic and literary that properly political level, what was a consequence of differences between both countries.
