Abstract
The aim of this article is to do a quantitative approximation to foreign investment in the province of Guipuzcoa during the middle decades of the XIXth century, in order to show that they were especially French. We focussed the research on primary sources, so we analysed the constitutions of the commercial companies that were registered in the presence of a notary during these years. In fact, all those private investment that were not registered in this way are excluded from this study. In the other hand, we analysed the tertiary and secondary sectors, excluding mining and transport, where it is possible to find a considerable presence of foreign capital (for example in the Compañía del Norte), really more known by the historiography.
