"Breiz Atao" and the mythification of the Basques in Brittany (1919-1939)

Abstract
Analyzing the Breton nationalistic newspaper Breiz Atao, this article examines how the press contributed to the idealization and the mythification of the Basques in Brittany. The author studies the representations that Breiz Atao spread between 1919 and 1939, and shows how a myth foreign to Brittany is used to transmit another myth, that of a martyrs' community united against the arbitrariness of the French State and of most European States.
