Abstract

In Catalonia, non-partible inheritance system did work perfectly —especially for wealthy peasant families— until the end of 18th. Century. Along the 19th century, some changes did occur, concerning unsafe situation due to the «carlistas» wars, to a growing process of urbanization, to the new political and administrative structures, to the equalitarian ideologies, and even to the agrarian crisis at the end of the century. All together meant to question the inheritance and marriage strategies of the wealthy social groups of the country. The paper analyzes a set of genealogies, which allow inferring some changing patterns related to the processes quoted before.
