Abstract

The paper tries to expand Schneider idea identifying the same definition and structure of Kinship, Nationality and Religion in American Society. He says that symbols of American kinship system give a kind of solidarity among kin, similar to the symbols of a nation among citizens. The expansion points to the modern definition of a nation, and to the definition of Catalan nationality, which was constructed by the catalanits at the end of 19th. Century, when they wrote on «familism» and the national character. These definitions are compared to the hybrid nature of kinship as a form helping to go from nature to culture, to the private sphere to the public one.
