Abstract

This article aims to study the principal ideas of the spanish economist Joaquín Díaz de Rábago about cooperativism; his studies and papers about popular credit; and his conections with others europeans writers in these fields. The research gives us new and main information about the beginning of cooperativism movement in Spain (1880-1900).

The writers, economists and politicians who were interested in scattering cooperativism ideas were only a very small group, many times even unknowing among themselves. This situation was suffered by Díaz de Rábago, who had taken part in some european symposium, but his papers about cooperativism had not been discussing in Spain.
