Abstract
The text can be seen as a debate about the regionalisms in the Ninetenth Century Spain, with an special attention to the Basque case. Based insome recent contributions on this topic, the complex relations between the Spanish general patriotism and the regionally based ones are revisited again. Also are discussed the cultural identities involved in those processes. This ambiguities are discussed in the period before the raising of the alternate and competing nationalisms of the turn of the century.
