Abstract

The communication examines in general terms the international isolation process of Spain during the regime of General Franco, and its consequences on the following Spanish approach to Europe.

It includes the period between the Potsdam Conference (1945) and the Spanish application to enter the European Communities (1977).

It describes the Spanish exclusion from the United Nations and other European and International Organizations, such as the European Communities and EFTA.

It examines the terms of the letter addressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Fernando Castiella (1962), to the European Communities, trying to reach an approach between Spain and Europe.

It refers to the opportunity and signature of the Preferential Agreement between Spain and the European Communities in 1970, and the serious political incidents that once again separated Spain from Europe during the last years of General Franco's Government (1970-1975).
