Abstract

In spite of his relative international acceptance since the end of the Forties, Franco's dictatorship remained out of the Europhile initiatives which took place after the II World War. Even if officially the regime rejected the process of European integration, its different political groups tried to establish contacts with these Europeanist movements since really early. From that perspective, this article makes an approach to the Europhile tasks of one of the most important Phalange's institutions, the Institute of Political Studies. This Institute had a dual role, as an instrument for foreign cultural policies and as a centre of theoretical creation, in charge of making a Europhile discourse adapted to the Francoism needs. However, several of the intellectuals posted in the Institute developed a vision of Europe which contradicted the official version, anticipating to a certain extent the intellectual dissent of the Sixties.
