Abstract
From a long-term perspective, Galicia came very late into the industrialization and the market, aproximately at the end of the XIXth century. At that time it was among the last of Spanish communities in terms of the GDP per capita. Incredibly made up for lost time in the first third of the XXth century, experimented the post-war depression in its economic network and managed to improve its economic variables in the final years of the XXth century, despite the obstacles that led to the entry into the European Community (which disrupted part of its traditional sectors such as fisshing, milk industry and shipbuilding) to settle their economic basis on the remodelling of mature industries and the commitment for a new-style business.
