Abstract
In the Spanish context, the Valencian economy evolved since the late nineteenth century in a peculiar way. On the one hand, a very intensive and export agriculture was able to generate high concentrations of population. Because access to land increasingly widespread, these concentrations did not prevent the improvement of living standards. A model that contrasted with most of the Spain. On the other hand, industrial development was also above average but fell far short of the manufacturing regions. In this intermediate position moved the Valencian economy during the twentieth century. This article will explore the interactions between agricultural growth and industrial progress, and the limits that this model seemed to show by the end of the century. century.
