Abstract
This paper presents an approach to the path of one of the big economic Andalusian regions —the one defined by the river Guadalquivir depression— from the end of the 18th century to our days. Having specified her territorial contours, we pursue both a chronological and sector analysis. The aim of the first one is to analyze the transformations experienced on the productive structure (in short, the transition from an agrarian economy to other one of services, with a limited industrialization) in three main stages: the liberal economy until the late nineteenth century, limited modernization in the first half of the twentieth century and the changes that have led to the current situation. Finally, some thoughts on the possibilities for the immediate economic future are discussed.
