Abstract

Tourism is a socio-cultural phenomean of the industrial and post-industrial society. Tourism has not always existed, it was invented in the 18th century by the Bristish aristocracy and became widespread, through imitation, among the persons of independant means in the 19th century. In the second half of the 20th century, the European middle classes and a part of the lover classes appropiated the sites and the pratices of tourism. The process of the invention of distinction still lasts today and gives a great meaning to changes much deeper than those of fashion.
