Abstract

As it happened in Europe, Spain also lived the emerging of the tourism in the XIXth century, thermal and seaside tourism. This phenomenom was developped in Spain later and in a different way than in the rest of the countries. Nevertheless, since mid century, the Spanish touristic industry started setting the basic supports for the development experimented in the following century. In a period where the hygienic paradigm was completely introduced, the liberalism finally succeeded, the capitalism experimented a clear expansion and the society lived important changes, the demand of touristic services increased and so did the offer. Thus, the first investment in health resorts started being made.
