Abstract

This article is centred in the analysis of the influence of the international context over the Basque nationalist movement prior to the death of its founder. This essay does not take the figure of Sabino Arana as a research starting point (since he did not pay significant attention to this aspect) but Biscayan Fuerism (which in 1898 became part of PNV). Based on the hypothesis which underlines the importance of Fuerism in the evolution of PNV during the XX century, the reception and influence of the following are presented; those of the Irish Home Rule in the formation of an autonomist project, together with those of the ways of British political action in the definition of a programme of performance for the Basque Country, which were later so influential on nationalism.
