Abstract
The aim of this article is the study of the regulation of civil death in the Civil Code Project of 1821. Posible influences are assessed and its regime is described from a basically constitutional point of view. It is argued that, in the context of the constitutional doctrine of 1812, the issue of the civil death sheds considerable light on the legal understanding of the individual person in rising liberalism.
