Abstract
During the second half of the XIXth century there was generated along the Cantabrian coast an important tourist activity tied to the seas baths. There arose multitude of stations of baths, the majority of limited size, but some of them reached a great development, especially Santander and San Sebastian. In many cases these tourist initiatives meant a key impulse in the urban development of these places. Emphasizes specially the beaches of the Bay of Bilbao, for narrow and peculiar attachment between tourist promotion and urban development planning.
