Abstract

This paper compares two typologically very different languages: Basque and Italian. Following a typological comparison, the author's attention focuses on the suffix and prefix systems in the two languages. A series of observations are then made regarding why Basque is a language with so few prefixes. The word forming processes are examined in a text by Azkarate, which serves as the backbone of this comparison between Italian and Basque.
