Abstract

The expansive activity of Julio Sáenz de Barés constitutes an eloquent testimony to
the Spanish architectonic panorama of the day, especially of Bilbao, a city where he was at home, the architectonic urbanistic and cultural development of which, sheltered
by its economic dynamism, he aspired to convert into the “Athens of the north”. He stood out because of his incessant search for opportunities at an enthralling and competitive time, leaving ample reminders across an extensive territory, fundamentally through his projects of a very heterogeneous nature relating to residential architecture.
