Abstract
The role of the staircase in Renaissance architecture in Spain is considered so far one of the aspects least studied by historiography of art. Due to this fact we propose an evolutionary study of the main models of staircases documented between the years of 1475 and 1625. In this paper we analyse their contributions to the field of civil and religious architecture, resulting in the first corpus of Spanish staircases.
