Abstract

Medieval gothic painting altarpieces are an essential framework of the research in the iconography of the miracle in the Middle Ages. In this paper, the interest lies in the iconography of the saints postmortem interventions cum apparitione related to their relics in Spanish medieval painting. We consider different examples in which the medieval artist has to represent pictorically the implication of the saints, their worldly praesentia and celestial praesentia, in subjets related to the establishment, finding and transferring of their own relics. The saint through his intercession will safeguard his own relics, so will make these relics with medieval society.
