Abstract
The foundation of chapels with their obligations and privileges was a constant in the modern society. Urban and rural elites saw these foundations a mechanism of social control and diffusion allowed to increase their status and power in the socio-political fabric of their community. Here we focus on the chapel of the Conception of the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Vitoria-Gasteiz, founded by Canon Fernan Martinez Pangua old. Later it passed to Gabriel Ortiz de Caicedo and his wife Ana Arana, who were responsible for expanding and placing their shields and grave.
