Abstract

One of the most important sets of paintings during the Baroque in Navarre are those about the New Spanish paintings, that turned Navarre into one of the regions with the highest numbers of paintings with that style. Despite the number of works, and even despite the prominent authorship of some of them - Juan Salguero, Juan Correa, Juan Rodríguez Juárez, Antonio Torres, Francisco Antonio Vallejo, José Alzíbar or José Páez - most of them were in need of historical review. Through searching in some regional and national archives, we have been able to find the donors of these pieces, and among them notably, Miguel Francisco Gambarte, a generous donor who sent three paintings of the anthropomorphic Trinity in the mid-eighteenth century.
