Abstract

The aim of this article is to review the definitions of Social Enterprise, paying special attention to the contrast between European tradition and Anglo-Saxon tradition. The characteristics and the situation of the organizations which, in the Spanish State, can be more directly identified with the traditional definition of Social Enterprise related to Socio-labour Integration Services are also described. This tradition is complemented by the inclusion of other perspectives of Social Enterprise, such as those of internally and externally-oriented strategies (Spear, 2009). Finally the concept of Social Enterprise is related to other concepts such as Social Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship or Social Market, which are mentioned in the article but reserved for a subsequent, deeper analysis.
