Abstract

The cooperative housing movement is experiencing a landmark moment in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country, a situation prompted not only by its resurgence in quantitative terms following the confirmation of the beginnings of the economic recovery and the mobilisation of the housing market, but also by the strong level of backing by public authorities with regard to new models such as collective ownership, in addition to the overhaul of the current cooperatives law which guarantees success based on essential values of the cooperative moment such as democracy and participation. This article seeks to analyse the current situation of the housing cooperative moment in the Basque Country, from its historical origins up to the current review of its legal framework.
