Abstract

Given the need to combat economic and social vulnerability, different groups have generated strategies to develop models of social economy, highlighting among them, the Time Banks, as a model that empowers people by sharing their personal and professional time for the obtaining services and generating social capital. This article seeks to elucidate the reasons that make the Time Banks an alternative solution for the problems that emerge among the vulnerable population in Mexico. The study was conducted from a qualitative approach, carrying out an approach to reality through the analysis of six Time Banks located in different regions of Mexico. With the results obtained, it can be argued that these instruments are an alternative to mitigate the problems of the vulnerable population, given that through them means of cooperation, reciprocity, relationships of trust and equity are generated.
