Abstract

The research work presented below aims to analyse seven community-based cooperative projects in the process of commoning or developing commons in some sectors considered strategic for the eco-social transition in the Basque Country. For this purpose, attention will be paid to the community articulation of these projects and to the rules and mechanisms established to make this community a common. In this way, the aim is to make a double contribution to the research topic: firstly, it has identified and developed some keys to the incorporation of the community approach in the processes of growth (or replication) of cooperatives, and secondly, it has reinterpreted these keys in the framework of commoning. As regards the results, although the existence of a previous community is important in the origin of these experiences, the need to pay special attention to the degree of openness of the projects, the governance models and the territorial integration strategies will be highlighted.
