This article aims to approach the concept of Islamophobia. Islamophobia has been interpreted as a new word for an old concept and, currently, it is a term that has emerged strongly in public and academic discourses. A process of criminalization of the Muslim community has spread, in which the media and political elites have reinforced negative perceptions and distrustful attitudes towards these people, which reinforces the need to know this concept at a more detailed theoretical level. To this end, firstly, the concept and characterization of Islamophobia has been studied in depth and, secondly, taking into account the aforementioned characteristics, the beliefs about this group, the construction made by the media and the obstacles they face in the integration processes have been studied in depth.
