Abstract
This essay summarizes the broad features of Castile’s royal fisc during the Seventeenth Century. It examines the main sources of revenue along those years (Cortes’ grants; debasement of coinage, among others) and the limits of their collection, and surveys the problems for the adoption of other means which perhaps could have helped to revert the declining overall fiscal collection between 1600 and 1700.
